Ingredients

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet or milk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden and centers look slightly soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Cookies will firm up as they cool—do not overbake.
  • For softer cookies, remove from oven when centers look slightly underdone.
  • Butter should be soft, not melted.
