Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden and centers look slightly soft.
Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
